The photo in our website header above was taken from the hill behind our home on March 8th, 2010. It looks southwest across part of Ahwatukee Foothills toward the Estrella Mountains, as the previous day's storm is starting to clear.

Our local weather on the west side of 36th Place is influenced by the hills of the mountain preserve directly behind our home. The temperature rises rapidly in the morning due to the sun shining straight down on the east side of the hill. By noon on a sunny day, our station is reporting a temperature that is slightly higher than the other stations near us in Ahwatukee Foothills. But in the late afternoon, the opposite effect takes place. The hill is in the shade and the air cools. Soon our station is reporting a cooler temperature than other stations near us. |
